Introduction and 1st ingredient

A basic bottle of Frank's Red Hot Sauce

Hot Sauce is a common condiment in many households, used to spice up everything from breakfast to dinner. It appears to have a relatively simple ingredient list (In the case of the hot sauce in question, Frank’s Red Hot Sauce) but what ARE those ingredients and why are they there? Are they potentially dangerous, or are they potentially beneficial? This blog hopes to answer all the questions you’ve ever had about Frank’s Hot Sauce. The main ingredient in Frank's Red Hot is Aged Cayenne Peppers. While also adding flavor, these peppers contain a special substance that is the key to every good hot sauce. Capsaicin (C18H27NO3), a substance derived from certain peppers is what gives hot sauces their kick. In the case of Frank’s Red Hot Sauce, the capsaicin is present in the Aged Red Cayenne Peppers. It can either be in the form of a crystalline white powder or, more commonly, a transparent oil. Capsaicin is toxic, as it has a volatile odor and causes stinging sensations on your tongue when ingested. The amount of capsaicin in most commercial hot sauces, however, is nowhere near dangerous.

Lewis Structure of an Acetic Acid Molecule Another ingredient is Distilled Vinegar, a compound with a musty odor, a density of 1.05 g/cm 3 and a boiling point of 117 C, is mostly Water (H 2 O) added to the key component, Acetic Acid. (CH 3 COOH) This makes it less acidic and less dangerous. Acetic Acid is found naturally in various fruits, but the amount is too small. Most of the Acetic Acid in the world comes from the Carbonylation of Ethanol. Carbonylation is the process of adding Carbon Monoxide to various Elements and Compounds. (CH 3 OH + HI —-> CH 3 I + H 2 O) (CH 3 I + CO —-> CH 3 COI) (CH 3 COI + H 2 O ——> CH 3 COOH) Vinegar is safe to consume, but too much of it can cause inflammation and a drop in Potassium levels. The Distilled Vinegar is there to complement the flavor of the hot sauce, as are most of the other ingredients. It may also play a role in preserving the hot sauce as not to let it go bad. 5th Ingredient and Conclusion

The last ingredient is Water. (Lesser known by its chemical name, Dihydrogen Oxide) Water, or H 2 O, is one of the main things that support life as it contains 2 of the elements of life (Oxygen, Hydrogen) that are needed to make the body function. The main purpose of the water is to dilute all the other ingredients and reduce the punch of the vinegar’s flavor. Water is usually found in a liquid state, with a melting point of 0C and a boiling point of 100C. It typically has a density of 1 g/cm 3 at room temperature. Oxygen helps your body's production of cellular energy in mitochondria and Hydrogen helps with everything in your body from digestion to fluids to energy! In conclusion, the ingredients in Frank's Red Hot Sauce seem to have the potential to cause harm, but the mixture is perfectly balanced to avoid any toxicity or negative effects. It is important to remember that everything in excess can be deadly, but there are precautions in place to make sure that everyone sta...
